In July 2018 we went to Lanzarote in the Canary Islands and went to see a real and live Volcano. Timanfaya, which is now a National Park, is one of the island's most spectacular sites. The Volcano is still active, it consists of a series of streaming volcanos and lava fields. In fact there is the longest Volcanic tunnel in the world, the Tunel de Atlantida 'Tunnel of Atlantis', which is over 7 km long. We researched and Lanzarote had eruptions for six years from 1730 to 1736 and a smaller one in 1824.

You can feel the heat under the surface at Timanfaya. We toured the park from a coach. Not only did we drive around the landscape, the best part was when we stopped and a man dug up some stones from a pit around 1 meter deep. He put them in my hands and they were hot from the live Volcano.
For his next demonstration he poured water down another hole, and a few seconds later it blasted into the air boiling. There was also a pit where they were cooking chickens from the heat of the Volcano. I had learnt about Volcanos at school but to see one so close is a truly amazing experience. I would recommend it if you have the chance to visit Timanfaya
and experience it for yourself.
Love the Volcano post. did you really go ?
